HOW TO APPLY VAMPIRE FANGS WITH DENTAL ADHESIVE BEADS

instructions on how to use dental beads to apply fangs to your teethHalloween is around the corner and many folks are busy preparing their tricks, carving pumpkins and gathering all the pieces for those crafty costume ideas.

At the dental office, we often think – “How can we have fun with our teeth this Halloween?”

The most common costume that benefits from some level teeth fabrication is: the vampire.

There are many costumes that come with fang kits and a huge variety of fake costume teeth available in stores. But how do you get those teeth to look real, and how do I get fake teeth to stay in place and fit comfortably?

Our first tip is to try using the individual fangs rather than the fake teeth that come in complete sets. They are easy to place and wear comfortably throughout the evening. Since most of your smile is still natural – they will look more realistic compared to any other option!

HOW DO I GET FAKE FANGS TO STICK TO MY CANINES WITH DENTAL ADHESIVE?

The most simple and least time-intensive option is to purchase a denture adhesive cream. Fixodent, Poligrip and Polident are a few brand labels that work great. Go for the products rated for “superior” hold or grip. These products can be found at pharmacies and drug stores. It will probably cost less than $5 and you won’t need much!

HOW DO I USE DENTURE ADHESIVE CREAMS FOR FAKE TEETH?

First, it is important to dry your teeth off as much as possible. The moisture and saliva will prevent a secure adhesive from forming. Tissues or dry paper towels are effective for removing the moisture from your teeth.

As soon as your natural teeth are dry, put a small dot of dental adhesive cream on the part of the fang that will be against your tooth. All that is needed is one small bead of Fixodent, or whichever product you’re able to find. Excess adhesive cream can be wiped off with a tissue.

Place the fang over your tooth and hold it in place for 10 – 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, slowly test to see if you can move your hand away and the fang will stay in place.

Do the same process for each tooth.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TOOTH IS MY CANINE?

The canines, or “fangs” are the relatively longer and pointed teeth towards the front of the mouth. Start at the middle of your upper teeth and count 3 teeth over from each side of your midline. These are your canines.

Did you know that in the old folklore there were actually very few vampires that actually had long fang-like canines? More recent literature and films have brought the idea of vampires having sharp fangs into popularity. Think Count Dracula and the Hammer Film. Either way, being teeth lovers here at Bell Harbour Dental, we still think large canines are awesome 😉 !

HOW LONG SHOULD I KEEP MY VAMPIRE FANGS ON?

Make sure to remove your fangs before eating or sleeping. If you eat with them in you may crack. Even worse – They may fall off without you realizing, leaving a potential of swallowing them!

When you finish your meal or wake up in the morning, simply clean them off, pull out your denture cream and start again!

Happy Halloween preparations from all of us here at Bell Harbour Dental!
